Chris Unwin

Leading the Way in Student-Centred Coaching

Chris has spent over 15 years helping young people unlock their potential, as an educator, consultant, and academic coach. He founded Excel as You because he believes young people need more than traditional academics to truly succeed—they need a personalised approach that gives them agency, builds their confidence, and prepares them for real-world challenges. Above all, they need to be listened to when making decisions about their own futures. Why Excel as You? While coaching is well-established in professional circles, Chris saw the need for a tailored coaching model specifically for young people. Through Excel as You, he developed a structured, student-led program that empowers students to define their own success and pursue it with focus and resilience, building skills that extend well beyond the classroom. Proven Results Chris’s methods aren’t just innovative—they’re effective. His coaching has helped students achieve places at Oxford and Cambridge, scholarships at leading European universities, internships at NASA, and positions in professional soccer and AFL development squads. As the leader of CBHS Lewisham’s academic coaching program, he helped students achieve record-breaking HSC results within the program’s first year. A Global Perspective With a Master’s in Education and a background in international educational consulting, Chris has worked to improve educational outcomes across diverse settings—from the UK to Zambia, from Ghana to Australia. His global experience, combined with his prior role as Head of Communications for a tech non-profit, allows him to connect meaningfully with students, educators, and parents alike. Excel as You is Chris’s vision for the future of education—a personalised coaching model that empowers young people to achieve academically and thrive personally, supported by a coach who believes in their potential every step of the way.
